ROMAN GOLD RING WITH SALUS AND LUNA INTAGLIO
Ca. 2nd Century AD.A gold finger ring of a thin band with a rounded exterior, decorative flared shoulders and an oval-shaped bezel cell set with a dark stone intaglio depicting busts of Sol Invictus with his radiate crown and Luna with a crescent over her head. Sol Invictus, known as the "Unconquered Sun," was a deity worshipped in the Roman Empire, particularly during the later Imperial period. He represented the invincible power of the sun and was associated with strength, light, and victory. Luna, on the other hand, was the Roman goddess of the moon, embodying its serene and mystic qualities. She was revered for her connection to the night sky and was often linked with divination and dreams.
