Probably Augsburg. Circa 1640

The case on moulded base with bun feet, the sides with pilasters flanking arched windows within rusticated frames, the galleried bell dome surmounted by a ball-and-spire finial, the main dial with outer narrow silver Roman chapter ring and inner calendrical ring displaying the age and phase of the moon, below that a silver disc showing the quarters and engraved in the centre with foliage, the rear dial with silver chapter discs displaying the hours and quarters, the gilt-brass movement with square section pillars, chain fusee for the going train now converted to pendulum escapement, the left side of the top plate cut out and calibrated 1 to 6 for the previous escapement regulation, going barrels for the hour and quarter strike on two bells above with subsidiary alarm train wound through the right side
